Left Brain, Right Brain; can Two Halves Make a Whole?
Why would two different photographers from two completely different markets with totally contrasting styles ever team up to give a program? Why would they even be together in the first place? Heather and David have shared a friendship that goes back long way... and has blossomed as they have grown personally and professionally. They have regularly shared ideas with each other that have allowed both their photographic styles and business skills to evolve. The result is the collaborative effort which they smilingly refer to as "Left Brain, Right Brain; Can two Halves Make a Whole?" During the course of their time with you, Heather and David will discuss creativity behind the camera and in front of the computer, not only in creating images, but in the creation of your studio image. You'll be challenged to see things in a different way - photographically, artistically, and logically. Join Heather and David as they share their eclectic styles of photography from an artistic and business perspective. Creativity in the camera room, the sales room, and the production room will be a part of this program. With these two energetic studio owners, you're in for a day of fun, laughter, and new ideas!
About David... www.DavidGrupaPortrait.com In 1976 David Grupa helped form Spectrum Images primarily as a wedding studio. Now operating as David Grupa Portrait, his Maplewood, MN studio also photographs children, families, and seniors. While his award-winning work has earned him state and national honors, David prefers to focus his efforts find ways to be profitable through effective sales and marketing. A regular contributor to "The Word" (the official publication of MPPA), David has also been published in PPA's "Professional Photographer" magazine, and Marathon Press' Portrait Studio Business Digest has detailed his Holiday promotion ideas. His marketing programs have been heard throughout the Upper Midwest. A high-energy speaker, David is certain to keep you entertained and informed! About Heather... www.KallhoffPortrait.com From her home studio in Watertown, SD, Heather Kallhoff describes herself as "a Mom with a camera in the garage." However, you'll find this 2 time MPPA Portrait Photographer of the Year recipient anything but ordinary in her style and creativity. Heather's storytelling approach to wedding and portrait photography has earned her accolades across the Northern Light Region, including top print honors, a pair of Fuji Masterpiece awards, and PPA Loan Collection images. Her attitude is refreshingly humble, preferring to shun the limelight in favor of "just doing what I enjoy." What she enjoys is creating moving images that tell a story. Owner of Doug Box Photography in Caldwell, TX. Douglas Allen Box is a dynamic writer, speaker and author of the popular workbook series on Marketing, Sales and Promotion for the Photographic Studio. The originator of the revolutionary concept of Prime Time and Minimum Orders, he is a pioneer of marketing in the new age of electronic imaging and color copiers. His first studio was in Brenham, Texas, a small town in the central part of the state, an hour and a half from Houston. With only 11,000 people, and eight other studios in town, he set records in sales and excitement! In July of '95 he sold that studio, which is still a successful operation, to pursue a lower volume/ higher profit "Back to the Home" upscale studio. Doug is best known for a motivational, fun and informative presentation. He has spoken around the country including 32 states and 10 National Conventions in the US, Mexico, and Canada, with great reviews. Doug was featured in the Kodak - The Times of Your Life publication, has been published in PP of A, Infoto, CPQ and WPPI Photography Monthly Magazines and had the cover of Photographer's Association and has over 300 merits accumulated. Doug has been inspiring photographers of all levels to go beyond the normal studio into a more successful and creative business. He is the publisher of the photographic Success Newsletter and has written several books including Professional Secrets of Wedding Photography published by Amherst Publishing.
Having trouble getting those print merits? Wayne Reese will share with you his ideas about print competition and obtaining those merits with non-portrait images. Wayne has recently received PPA Certification and was also awarded the Masters Degree in New Orleans. Wayne achieved this in only three years of print competition. On the way to his Masters Degree he picked up many accolades including; Best First Time Print and Print Case as well as the Best General Print Case, Best of Show, many first and second place awards, a Kodak Gallery Award, Three Fuji Masterpiece Awards, and Two PPA Loan Prints. Many successful portrait photographs struggle with those portraits in print competition for different reasons. Whether it's a problem with posing or lighting or subject matter, it just isn't working. So they turn to landscapes! Capturing a landscape is easy, right? On the other hand capturing a landscape that will score high enough score to recive a merit is a little more challenging. Join in the fun and discussion on subject matter, lighting, composition and more. Wayne will also share with you what his strategy has been from the first time he entered competition to the most recent, and how that same strategy could work for you in the same way it made Wayne a better photographer.
